Thinkware announce New Dash Cams for 2019

Thinkware recently announced two dashcams that are expected to hit the market in the first quarter of 2019.

A new Motorsport Cam M1 is one of the first dashcams developed specifically for off-road vehicles and motorcycles.  A second dashcam, the QA100, is the first 2K model, according to Thinkware.

Motorcycle Dashcam

Due to ship early in the second quarter of 2019, the Thinkware M1 motorcycle dash camera differs from a GoPro because its viewing angle is optimized for the road.

It has front and rear cameras and it can be hardwired to the vehicle’s battery so you don’t have to worry about a portable battery, said Thinkware’s Joe Tegerdine.

The Thinkware M1 offers stabilized video recording with Electronic Image Stabilization and automatic start up and shut down. It claims to capture brighter images in the dark than its competitors.

The Thinkware M1 is WiFi capable and allows users to view captured video footage on an Android or iOS smartphone, this feature alone will be very popular for the motorcycle community

It has built-in GPS, a gyro sensor, and full 1080p HD video via a 2.1 megapixel Sony IMX291 Exmor R STARVIS image sensor.

We should be able to get a price closer to the release date, but with the features on offer, we would guess the pricing would be similar to the high-end car dash cam pricing.

2K Dashcam

Thinkware announced a new QA100 that will become its top-of-the-line dash camera.

2K provides a 1440 pixel resolution compared to the 1080P resolution of an HD camera. This allows better capture of license plates, faces and other features that may be helpful in identifying vandals or at-fault parties.

Apart from 2K capability, the new QA100 is similar to the current Thinkware F800 Pro HD camera.  It also uses a Sony image sensor for better night viewing and it comes in single and dual channel versions (the rear camera remains at 1080P capability).

The QA100 has WiFi viewing of video on a smartphone, push notifications to alert you of an impact, GPS tracking on Google maps and geofencing.

Thinkware plans to offer a 4K dashcam by the middle of next year.
